Though I have been in the virtual assistant world for a number of years, there still may be some of you out there that aren’t certain just what a virtual assistant is. The truth is there are a number of different ideas and thoughts on what exactly a virtual assistant is, however let’s look at one well known resource’s definition. According to Wikipedia.com, a virtual assistant (typically abbreviated to VA, also called a virtual office assistant) is generally self-employed and provides professional administrative, technical, or creative (social) assistance to clients remotely from a home office.
Becoming a Virtual Assistant
There are dozens of benefits to becoming a virtual assistant including the flexibility and ability to work from home, the ability to set your own hours, the ability to work around your own schedule and the schedules of your family and children. The list honestly goes on and on of benefits both for you as a virtual assistant and for the business owners who are your clients.
A confusing piece of the virtual assistant world is that there are many different types of virtual assistants out there. These are categorized not only by the skills that one offers, but also by the niches that one serves. For example a virtual assistant might only offer general administrative skills such as email processing, customer service and data entry or they might offer more technical services such as WordPress website maintenance.
Then, there is also the virtual assistant’s niche that can be an identifier. As a virtual assistant you may choose to target real estate agents, business coaches, authors, speakers, dentists, internet marketers or any other number of niches. This can also be a factor that can set you apart. Choosing the right niche is important to your business.
